Friday Favourites

Updated: Mar 1, 2019

Each week I want to pass on some of the little things that have inspired me on social media, things I've read or listened to, things I've learnt, moments that impacted me and the things I am most grateful for during the last week. These are my Friday Favourites:

1. What I watched ...

This short animation from Happify, narrated by Sharon Salzberg, beautifully depicts the inner fight we can all have with or emotions. It shares how mindfulness can help us to live side by side with the spectrum of emotions that battle for our attention. Mindfulness allows us to see our thoughts and feelings as they really are, freeing us from old ways of thinking

2. What I read ...

Last week I shared the first part of this cutting account of the dark side to making it to the top of your profession. The second part of this blog again goes into some of the mental health issues some of the athletes suffer with, in silence.

3. Who I am interested in ...

Now I'm not going to take credit for coming across this, Brene Brown brought it to my attention, but this speech from Theodore Roosevelt captures for me the essence of what it is like to try and succeed in life. Whilst some people are doing the best they can to strive and make a difference, others hide in the shadows trying to bring them down. It takes courage to put yourself out there and keep getting up again, I'm not sure how much courgae it takes to criticise from a distance.

4. What I am reading ...

I've only just started this one but sleep is one of the essential pieces to my wheel of life so really looking forward to what insights and learnings I can take from it. Written by a scientific expert, Professor Matthew Walker explores twenty years of cutting-edge sleep science. From what really happens during REM sleep to how caffeine and alcohol affect sleep and why our sleep patterns change as we grow older.

5. What I am practising ...

Talking of my wheel of life. How do you get the most from this life? A big question I know especially if you are reading this at the end of a busy day, or during your lunch, of even on you way to work? Anyway this is something that I’m working with to help me get the most from this exciting, challenging and bumpy journey, I hope there is something in it that can help you.

That's it for this weeks Friday Favourites, if you have something you want to share, or any feedback on these favourites you can leave a comment on my Facebook page or follow me on Instagram.
